About StockOdds

WHAT STOCKODDS DOES

There are no sure things in the stock market- only better odds.

StockOdds gives today’s odds that your stock will be higher after the next sixty days of trading. Most Odds are between 40% and 60%.

StockOdds does not deluge you with a confusing mass of considerations. You simply see the odds of your stock going up.

The color expresses how your stock compares to all stocks. Green is strongest and red is weakest. Press the (?) symbol to see the stock’s numerical percentile.

All Odds are based on the stock’s long-term and short-term trends in price and volume. No attempt is made to time the stock market. Odds are the results of millions of tests, over historically representative market conditions.

Odds are fully technical, and thus fundamentals, expert opinions, and breaking news are ignored.

The aim is to give you an exceptionally clear and level-headed perspective. This helps you avoid self-defeating emotional investing, and can streamline your own independent research.

HOW STOCKODDS WORKS

StockOdds reports the odds that a stock traded on the NYSE, NASDAQ or AMEX will be up after the next sixty days of trading. New odds are calculated each trading day.

You can search stocks by symbol or by company name.

The Top 50 feature lists the stocks in the entire 8,000 stock database with today’s highest Odds.

The Most Popular feature lists the stocks with the highest volume on the most recent day of trading. As indicated by color, the Odds of these popular stocks can be high, low, or in between.

The heart of StockOdds is a massive database of test results, encompassing millions of technical results from thousands of stocks in bullish, bearish and sideways market conditions.

Odds are calculated by matching your stock’s present technical details to the historical database, and reporting the percentage of time the matching stocks were up sixty trading days into the future.

The calculations are based on three uncontroversial observations:
  1. Long trends in stock price movement reverse less often than short trends.
  2. Short trends backed by increasing volume reverse less often than trends with fading volume.
  3. Short trends backed by the overall market reverse less often than trends against the market.
These calculations mean that Odds are not a subjective "opinion" about the future. The logic does not review a company's financial status, management, products or services; nor does it try to interpret any breaking news.

Odds are not a specific projection of the market’s future; they assume only general historical norms.

Thus Odds should always be treated as probabilities- as the way to bet in uncertain conditions. This means that on any given day it is never certain that a group of stocks with (say) odds of 58 will outperform a group of stocks with odds of 51. But that is always the way to bet.

Stocks move fast and in uncertain ways. Thus it is good to always have a clear and level-headed perspective. StockOdds seeks to help you avoid self-defeating emotional decision-making.

But StockOdds should not replace your own stock research; rather it only helps you identify which stocks to research first.
